Algorithmic Blending

Nature provides remarkable examples of patterns and systems which can be used to inform our design studies. To better understand the blending algorithm this project investigates how blending can be directly expressed in both natural and digital forms.

Algorithmic Blending ×

Blending is unique in the way that it can manifest not only in form and color, but also in arrangements, orders, and textures. Considering this potential, this project attempts to represent these attributes through the exploration of blending patterns and forms.

Physical models were used to explore the tactility and materiality of how different materials respond to manipulation when attempting to present a form that represents blending order.

Digital model were used as a reflection of combining the findings above and explored investigations. 3 Dimensional visualization of these learnings further pushes the understanding of the explorations of blending by providing an modifiable study.
