This work explores the process of production as well as potential opportunities for future adaptation of the bio-based material.

The process of Shiitake mycelium colonizing both grain spawn and bagged substrate is shown in the first images. Both processes require highly sterile environments to avoid contamination.

Once the mycelium fully colonized the substrate, it was placed into moulds to achieve a desired form. A raw form before mould incubation stage is shown.

The final image shows a mycelium form after it was removed from a mould and dried. At this stage, the malleability and strentgh of the material were tested.
